How does the Mundamala around Shivaji’s neck tell the immortal love story of Shiva and Parvati?

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Shiva applies bhasma on his body and wears a 108-headed Mundamala around his neck. There is a mythological story related to this rosary, after hearing which not only you but also Mother Parvati was surprised. According to the legend, once Devarshi Narad asked Mother Parvati why Lord Shiva wears this Mundamala and what is its secret. Even Mother Parvati did not know the answer to this question. Therefore he asked this question to Lord Shiva. Then Shivji told that this Mundamala is a symbol of the immortal love of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva.

 

According to mythology, Lord Shiva is immortal, while Mother Parvati took many births to have Lord Shiva as her husband. In every birth he had attained Lord Shiva by taking different forms. It is believed that Mother Sati i.e. Parvati was born 108 times. The Mundamala present on Lord Shiva’s neck is a symbol of this. Each head of this garland represents one birth of Mother Sati.

What is the symbol of Mundamala?

 

According to the legend, when Mother Parvati asked several times about Mundamala, Lord Shiva told her its secret. He said that the 108 heads present in Mundamala symbolize the 108 births of Mother Parvati. For this reason, religious experts believe that Mundamala is a symbol of the immortal love story of Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva.

 

After getting the answer to this question, Mother Parvati asked another question. He said that I have to take birth again and again and have to sacrifice my body in every birth, whereas you are immortal. What is the secret of your immortality? While answering this question, Lord Shiva narrated a story.

What is the immortal story of Lord Shiva?

 

According to legend, Lord Shiva chose a secluded place to narrate the immortal story, which is today known as Amarnath Cave. Before narrating the story, he had lit a fire around the cave, so that no one could enter there and hear the immortal story.

 

After this Lord Shiva started narrating the immortal story to Mother Parvati. Mother Parvati fell asleep while listening to the story, but Lord Shiva felt that she was listening to the story. After some time, Lord Shiva saw that Mother Parvati was sleeping. The two pigeons present in the cave had heard the entire story. Seeing this Shivaji became angry. Then both the pigeons asked for forgiveness. A pigeon said that if you kill us, this immortal tale will become untrue. Lord Shiva calmed down after listening to the pigeons and said that from today onwards these two pigeons will be considered a symbol of power and immortality.
