The Indian women’s football team won the SAFF Championship 2026 title on Saturday, ending a seven-year drought. In the final, the Indian team defeated Bangladesh 3-1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian team on this special achievement.

The performance of the Indian team was excellent throughout the tournament. Pyari Jaxa scored the first goal for the Indian team against Bangladesh in the title match. In the 42nd minute of the match, he showed great agility and played a tremendous shot in the penalty area. Surovi Akhtar tried to stop Jaxa’s shot, but the ball deflated and went over Mike Akhtar’s head and reached the goal post.

However, Bangladesh made a comeback after just a few minutes. In stoppage time, Ritu Porna dodged the Indian defense and scored a brilliant goal. With this goal the score became equal to 1-1. Just after half time, Sanfida Nongrum gave India a 2-1 lead in the match with a brilliant header from Pyari Jaxa’s brilliant cross pass.

In the 82nd minute of the match, substitute player Linda Kom Certo scored the third goal for India and ensured victory. The Indian team scored a total of 18 goals in the tournament, while the opposition team managed to penetrate India’s defense only once. Aveka Singh was the highest goalscorer in the tournament. He scored a total of 4 goals.
