Gill-Pant together broke 8 years old record, biggest partnership against Afghanistan

At the end of the first day’s play of the Test match being played between India and Afghanistan at Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh, where Team Indian had scored 368 runs in its first innings, the hold became even stronger in the second day’s play. Indian captain Shubhman Gill and Rishabh Pant broke an 8-year-old record by making an excellent partnership of 169 runs for the fourth wicket in the second day’s play, making it the biggest partnership for any wicket in the Test matches played between India and Afghanistan so far. However, Gill and Pant lost their wickets in the first session.
Everyone expected a big inning from Shubman Gill after his century in the second day’s play, but he returned to the pavilion after playing an inning of 126 runs. Earlier, a partnership of 169 runs in 216 balls was seen between Gill and Pant for the fourth wicket. Together, they broke the record of 168-run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in the Test match played between India and Afghanistan in 2018 and made the record of the highest partnership of runs for any wicket in Test cricket for India against Afghanistan. So far, the Indian team has seen four century partnerships in Test cricket against Afghanistan.
In the Mullanpur Test against Afghanistan, most of the attention was on wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was playing with an unbeaten 50 runs at the end of the first day. Pant started the second day too cautiously and was scoring runs easily, in which just when everyone thought that he would be successful in scoring a century, just before that he lost his wicket while trying to play a big shot against Omarzai Shahidi on a personal score of 81. Pant has been out between the scores of 80 and 99 for the 8th time in Test cricket.
