Taapsee Pannu spoke openly on ageism: Not men, only women are limited at the age of 30
New Delhi . There is still a special attitude regarding age in Bollywood and South Film Industry. Taapsee Pannu recently told that after crossing the age of 30, she is considered ‘not suitable’ for romantic-comedy films. She had this experience not only in the Hindi film industry but also in the South industry. Taapsee Pannu told Times Entertainment that she started her career in Hindi films at the age of mid-20s. In his early years he had to struggle to get good roles. By the time she reached an established position, she was in her 30s. After this the producer and director tell him that this role is no longer for him.
He clarified that this problem is not limited to Bollywood only. This experience happened to him in South Indian films also. As soon as she was cast opposite the senior actor, some young actors refused to work with her. Taapsee called it ‘ageism’ and said that such discrimination does not happen with male actors.
Giving an example, Taapsee said that it is not easy for anyone to have such an argument with senior actors like Shahrukh Khan. An actress’ career can change completely by working with him. This is why this issue is sensitive.
From a social point of view, this case can be seen as a clear example of gender discrimination and ageism in the industry. Taapsee Pannu insists that it is not necessary to be young just to get a role. Acting ability, experience and screen presence matter more.
A year ago, Taapsee took a break from social media. She said that she wanted to focus on her work and personal life. Brands also have a condition that they should work only with those actors who are active on social media. Taapsee considered it a waste of time and gave priority to real life.
Currently, Taapsee Pannu played the role of a lawyer in her film ‘Assi’. The audience will get to see his upcoming films ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahan’ and ‘Gandhari’. Taapsee says she believes that good story and acting will always work, no matter the age.
This statement of Taapsee Pannu draws attention to the problem of ageism and gender discrimination in the industry. This proves that it is not right to limit actors only on the basis of age. Their experience also shows that the impact of age on a woman’s career is more visible than that of men.
This statement of Taapsee highlights the need for change and equal opportunities in the industry. It conveys the message that talent and hard work should not be judged by age or gender.
