Delhi IGI Airport To Noida International Airport Underground Tunnel: Indira Gandhi International Airport of the country’s capital Delhi i.e. Delhi IGI Airport will be connected to Noida International Airport through an underground tunnel. Work has started on this ambitious plan to connect two international airports and completely change the traffic of Delhi-NCR. After the green signal from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the National Highway Authority of India i.e. NHAI has started the survey.
This underground tunnel, which will change the map of NCR, will start from Talkatora Stadium. After this it will go to Gurugram via IGI Airport. Its construction will provide relief from traffic jam between Delhi-NCR. Second phase- Study will be done to extend this tunnel route from Talkatora Stadium to Sarai Kale Khan.
This tunnel will pass just below the Ring Road. This tunnel at Sarai Kale Khan will be directly linked to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. After this, this route will provide uninterrupted connectivity directly to Noida International Airport (Jewar) through Chandavali-Jewar link road. For the convenience of passengers, entry and exit points will be made at many places. One of its most prominent entrances is planned to be near Talkatora Stadium in Central Delhi. This will directly benefit lakhs of people in densely populated areas like Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar and Rajendra Place.
There will be a direct route to Jewar
After reaching Sarai Kale Khan, this underground tunnel will be connected to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. After this, the drivers will reach Noida International Airport directly using Chandavali-Jewar connectivity road via this expressway. In this way, an uninterrupted and red light free corridor of 86 km will be created between IGI and Jewar Airport.
The project will be completed in two phases
On the project, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra said that under the first phase, the study has been started from Talkatora Stadium to IGI Airport and Gurugram. In its next phase, the tunnel route from Talkatora towards Sarai Kale Khan will be studied. This is still the initial stage. After the route and alignment are finalized, its detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared. In this, the complete outline of the total cost of construction and technical challenges will be revealed.
