Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan padyatra launched in Poonch, JK
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan padyatra in Poonch on Sunday, emphasizing the need for collective efforts against drug abuse and the creation of a responsible society.
The initiative seeks to raise awareness, enhance preventive measures, and encourage community participation in combating drug addiction throughout Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the participants, Sinha stated, “A truly great society is built by the efforts of those who, despite not being personally affected, stand firm against such evils. This message must reach every family in the region. A prosperous society is not built merely on economic progress, but on the collective resolve and firm determination of its citizens. Work is underway on the front lines. The aim is to completely dismantle the supply chain.”
He also stressed the role of community involvement, adding, “In every district I have visited, I have seen people breaking down barriers–political and religious–to embrace this cause as their own, standing in support of the campaign. Our administration is committed to rehabilitating with compassion, empathy, and sensitivity those who have fallen into the trap of drug abuse.”
Last month, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led a similar padyatra in Baramulla district of North Kashmir as part of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan’, which aims to reduce drug abuse in the Union Territory.
The march included participants such as students, youth, civil society members, and district administration officials, reflecting a united effort against the narcotics menace.
Addressing the crowd, the Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significance of community-led initiatives to combat drug abuse and urged young people to avoid substance use.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strict action against drug traffickers, alongside awareness and rehabilitation programs.
This padyatra forms part of a 100-day intensive campaign initiated by the administration to bolster public outreach and awareness against drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.
