Couple fled to Kolkata after killing university professor, police brought them to Delhi

Police on Sunday arrested a couple from Kolkata in connection with the murder of an assistant professor of Delhi University. This arrest took place three days after the incident. The professor’s dead body was found in a high-rise society in East Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday.

 

Giving information, Joint Police Commissioner (Eastern Range) Ajit Kumar Singla said that the motive for the murder was a dispute over a property. He told that the Apori couple had gone from Kolkata to Delhi to commit the murder. After coming to Delhi, both of them murdered the professor and returned to Kolkata.

According to the police, the deceased woman had serious injury marks on her head, both her wrists were cut and there were injury marks on her face and body, suggesting that there had been a scuffle before she was murdered. Deceased Assistant Professor Debosmita Paul had got a permanent job in DU’s Shivaji College in the year 2023.

Ancestral property became the reason for murder

Police said that the arrested couple was living as tenants in one of his ancestral properties in Kolkata. Further told, ‘The accused couple wanted to buy the house in which they were living for many years. The professor’s parents and two siblings were ready to sell it, as all the family members were settled in Delhi and had no plans of going back to Kolkata. The professor was against the family’s decision to sell their ancestral property.

 

Police further said, ‘The couple was considering the professor as the main obstacle. Despite repeated requests, he became angry when the professor did not give permission to sell the property. After this the couple came to Delhi and murdered her on Wednesday and returned to Kolkata.

 

Police said the couple was arrested in Kolkata and are being brought to Delhi for further questioning and investigation.
