Crowd gathers at Jantar Mantar as Cockroach Janta Party protest begins in Delhi

Supporters and students began gathering at Jantar Mantar on Friday after Delhi Police granted permission for a protest led by Abhijeet Dipkefounder of the satirical online Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The demonstration has been organized to demand accountability over examination-related issues and seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The gathering comes after Dipke arrived in the national capital from Bostonwhere he had announced plans earlier this week to return to India and launch what he described as a peaceful movement focused on education reforms and examination transparency.

Police have permitted the protest at Jantar Mantar while maintaining heightened security arrangements across key locations in the capital.

Dipke calls for peaceful demonstration

Shortly after arriving in Delhi, Dipke posted a message on social media expressing enthusiasm about meeting supporters at the protest site. “I am looking forward to meeting all at Jantar Mantar. We have to lead this movement with love and peace,” he said, urging participants to maintain discipline throughout the demonstration.

His appeal comes after he previously requested supporters not to gather in large numbers at the airport, saying that excessive crowds could create inconvenience for passengers and security personnel.

The protest organizers have repeatedly emphasized that the demonstration is intended to remain peaceful and within the framework of the law.

Protest centered on examination-related concerns

The campaign gained attention after Dipke called for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhanciting concerns related to controversies and alleged lapses involving major examinations. Organizers have argued that issues surrounding competitive and academic examinations have generated concern among students and aspirants across the country. The protest seeks to draw attention to these concerns and push for greater accountability.

Participants arriving at Jantar Mantar carried banners and placards while gathering at the designated protest venue.

Security tightened across Delhi

Authorities have increased security measures in anticipation of large crowds attending the event.

Additional police personnel have been deployed at Indira Gandhi International Airportmajor border entry points, and other sensitive locations across the city. Security arrangements have also been strengthened around Jantar Mantar to ensure that the protest proceeds peacefully.

Police officials have been monitoring crowd movement and coordinating traffic management measures in the surrounding areas.

Sonam Wangchuk’s statement adds attention

The protest has received additional attention after education reform advocate and climate activist Golden Wangchuk said he would join the demonstration if the Education Minister did not step down by June 5. His remarks added visibility to the campaign and intensified public interest in Friday’s gathering.

However, organizers have continued to stress that the movement remains focused on peaceful participation and democratic expression.

What happens next?

As the protest continues at Jantar Mantar, attention is expected to remain on crowd turnout, speeches by organizers, and any response from government authorities.

For now, supporters continue to gather at the designated venue while police maintain security arrangements across the capital. Organizers have reiterated their call for a peaceful demonstration as the movement enters its next phase.
