Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono reached India; Will hold a meeting with S Jaishankar
India Ties Indonesia Minister Visit: Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono has reached New Delhi on a diplomatic visit. His visit will give a new direction to the relations between the two countries. When he reached here on Sunday morning, he was given a very warm welcome. There is immense enthusiasm in diplomatic circles regarding this visit.
The main objective of this visit is to enhance bilateral cooperation and trade partnership between India and Indonesia. Sugiono has come to participate in the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting. This meeting will provide a platform to review mutual cooperation. This will open new avenues of foreign policy.
Important meeting of Joint Commission
Dr. S. Sugiono in New Delhi. Will hold an important meeting with Jaishankar. The two leaders will co-chair the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting. In this meeting the strategic partnership between the two countries will be reviewed. This meeting is very special for promoting mutual trade and regional cooperation.
History of bilateral relations
The Joint Commission mechanism was established after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in January 2001. Earlier, the 7th Joint Commission meeting was held in New Delhi on 17 June 2022. Then this meeting was chaired by Jaishankar and the then Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi. These meetings reflect a strong relationship.
Earlier on May 14 also, Jaishankar had met Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono. This meeting took place during the meeting of foreign ministers of BRICS countries. The two leaders reviewed the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and cooperation with ASEAN. This cooperation is necessary for the security of Asia.
Guest of Republic Day Celebration
In January 2025, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto came on a state visit to India. He participated as the chief guest in the 76th Republic Day celebrations of India. This historic occasion coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This was a matter of pride for both the countries.

Defense and Maritime Sector
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jakarta in 2018, both the countries made relations a strategic partnership. India and Indonesia had adopted a vision on maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. This initiative has greatly strengthened the relations between the two countries in the defense sector. This will also provide huge security to bilateral trade.
