Important meeting of India alliance today, 23 parties claim participation, strategy and unity will be discussed
Tezzbuzz Desk- An important meeting of the India Alliance will be held today (June 8) at the Constitution Club in New Delhi to brainstorm on the changing political scenario of the country and the upcoming political challenges. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has claimed that 23 political parties of the alliance will participate in the meeting. However, some parties have expressed their inability to attend the meeting due to various reasons.
Giving information on social media platform X, Jairam Ramesh said that 23 parties associated with the alliance have confirmed participation in the meeting. He said that even though some parties are not attending the meeting, they are continuing to oppose the policies and working style of the Central Government.
Meanwhile, senior Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien also termed the meeting important and said that the India alliance is moving forward with a common objective and clear political resolve. According to him, the opposition parties are united on the issue of protecting democratic values and constitutional institutions.
The Centre’s strategy to corner the Narendra Modi government on various national issues is likely to be discussed in the meeting. Opposition parties allege that the central government is weakening democratic institutions, attacking the spirit of the Constitution and using investigative agencies against political opponents. Apart from this, issues like inflation, unemployment, economic challenges and foreign policy can also remain at the center of discussion.
According to sources, the meeting will discuss strengthening opposition unity and preparing a common political program keeping in mind the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The future strategy of the alliance and measures to increase coordination among various states are also likely to be discussed.
However, the meeting is taking place at a time when differences have also come to the fore among some of the alliance partners. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has decided to stay away from the meeting citing political disputes with Congress in Tamil Nadu. The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has expressed displeasure over the comments of Congress leaders regarding the alleged nexus between the Left parties and the BJP in Kerala.
It is being told that CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby has also written a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge seeking clarification on this issue. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has already publicly declared itself separate from the India alliance.
Political analysts believe that this meeting, held amid the recent assembly elections and changing political equations in various states, is an important opportunity for the opposition parties to demonstrate their unity. In such a situation, this meeting to be held in the Constitution Club can play an important role in deciding the direction of opposition politics in the coming years.
