Russian young tennis star Mira Andreeva created history by winning the French Open 2026 women’s singles title. 19-year-old Andreeva defeated Poland’s Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 in the final at Roland Garros in Paris on Saturday (Dec 6) to win her first Grand Slam title. With this win, she became the youngest player to win the title on clay courts in Paris since 1992. Previously, Monica Seles held the record in 1992 at the age of 18.

Andreeva dominated the final match
Mira Andreeva, playing in her first Grand Slam final, played brilliantly from the start. She broke her opponent’s serve in the early stages of both sets and maintained a strong hold on the match. World number eight Andreeva kept the 24-year-old Chwalinska under pressure throughout the match with her excellent baseline shots, nimble movements and accurate serves. After winning the first set 6-3, she played more aggressively in the second set and gave her opponent no chance to come back. She finally won the second set 6-2.
Mira Andreeva declared her happiness after winning her first Grand Slam. ‘I have been watching Roland Garros since I was very young and it has always been a dream of mine to win this trophy,’ said Andreeva.
Maja Chwalinska’s Unforgettable Journey
Ranked around 114th in the world, Chwalinska entered the tournament through the qualifying round. She defeated many veterans to reach the finals. On her way to the final, she won nine matches in a row and became the first woman to reach the final of the French Open from qualifying. Her feisty attitude and impressive performances won the hearts of tennis fans around the world.

Andreeva also showed strength in the semi-finals
She defeated 15th seed Marta Kostyuk 6–1, 6–3 in the semifinals to reach the final. Her performances on clay courts have been consistently good over the years, and she has previously reached the quarterfinals and semifinals at Roland Garros.
Andriwala reward of crores
After this historic victory, Mira Andreeva received a huge prize money of 3.25 million dollars along with the glittering Suzanne-Lenglen trophy. By winning a Grand Slam title at the age of just 19, she has written her name in the list of great players in the tennis world.
