High alert in Jaipur today, bulldozers will run from temple to mosque, internet closed – 10 Points
The administration made strict security arrangements before the start of a large-scale anti-encroachment campaign in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur on Monday. In view of the action being taken under the road widening project in Jagatpura area, internet services were temporarily closed, while thousands of police personnel have been deployed across the city.
The campaign being run by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) aims to complete the long pending road widening project on Nandpuri Road. However, there has been opposition at the political and social level regarding the action of removing religious structures.
10 important things related to the whole matter
1. JDA is working on a plan to widen about 1.5 km long stretch of Nandpuri Road. This road passes parallel to the railway line and at present its width is about 25 to 30 feet. According to the authority, the road is to be widened to 80 feet under the approved master plan.
2. The district administration has clarified that the suspension of internet services is a precautionary measure. Officials say that during the action, this decision was taken to stop the spread of rumours, inflammatory messages or material creating communal tension on social media.
3. Under the campaign, the process of removing five religious structures falling within the prescribed limits of the road has been started. These include a mosque, two temples, a satsang building and a tomb.
4. According to officials, notices had been issued to the concerned parties a long time ago. He was also given additional time to remove the encroachment on his own. After the expiry of the stipulated time limit, now the administration has started direct action.
5. According to Anand Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of JDA Vigilance Branch, 134 encroachments were removed during the operation conducted in the same area on May 22. At that time, relief was given to religious institutions and other encroachers by giving them additional time.
6. In view of the action, the administration has implemented extensive security arrangements. In which more than 3,000 policemen, 12 companies of RAC, additional police forces from Jaipur, Kota and Bharatpur ranges and special surveillance is being done in sensitive areas.
7. The administration has warned that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading false, misleading or communally sensitive material through social media or other mediums. Officials say that maintaining law and order is the top priority.
8. The administration claims that after the completion of the project, traffic pressure will reduce in many major areas of the city.
9. According to officials’ estimates, the road widening project will directly benefit people of about 50 colonies. This will not only improve the traffic system but is also expected to accelerate the development of the area.
10. Some political parties and community organizations have raised objections regarding this campaign. Congress MLA Rafiq Khan raised questions on the timing and process of action, saying “matters related to places of worship should be settled through consultation and consensus.”
