A Historic Rendezvous in Pyongyang: Xi Jinping’s Landmark North Korea Visit After Seven Years:

Read, Digital Desk : The Chinese news agency, Xinhua said that there he would hold bilateral talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. During the visit, the two leaders will renew the age old friendship between the two neighboring countries and will further the bilateral ties.

The visit by Xi Jinping comes at a time when the military ties between Pyongyang and Moscow have been witnessed strengthening. In 2024, North Korea and Russia had also inked a pact on mutual defense during Russian president Vladimir Putin’s visit to Pyongyang.

The visit comes in the wake of a change of global dynamics.

The visit of the Chinese President to North Korea comes a day after the visits of US President Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin to China and at a time when China accuses Japan of developing a new militarist policy- a claim Tokyo has refuted.

The Chinese President has paid the two day state visit to the nation on the invitation of Kim Jong-un and this is seen as a reciprocal visit after Kim Jong-un had previously visited China. Kim Jong-un visited Beijing in September 2025, to participate in the military parade held on the 70th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II, which was also attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Warm welcome at airport

North Korea’s ruler and the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Kim Jong-un and his wife, Ri Sol-ju welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan at the airport, said Xinhua. The two leaders shook hands warmly after Xi Jinping had got off from the plane.

Xi Jinping is accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, and the General Office of the Communist Party Central Committee director Cai Qi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Future Strategic Direction between the two Countries

Prior to his meeting with the North Korean leader, Xi Jinping said that he writes in North Korea’s official daily Rodong Sinmun that at present, the relationship between China and DPRK is at a new historical juncture and is in a new historic opportunity of development and the new mission of the era.

He further stated that General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping said that China is willing to join the DPRK in promoting the development of bilateral ties strategically, to adhere to keeping pace with the times and realizing the greater development of bilateral ties and deepen the strategic exchanges so that bilateral ties continue to march in the correct direction.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between China and North Korea and Xi Jinping maintained that all levels of exchanges and all party, government and military departments of the two sides shall use this year as an opportunity to increase exchanges, to ensure no policy or measures for reviving militarism and undermining regional stability is formulated or implemented.

North Korea firm on the Nuclear Issue

However, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Kim Yo Jong and a department director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), said that North Korea has no intentions of discussing the denuclearization, it being entirely irreversible, was stated by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported by Yonhap.
