‘A self-respecting country will not tolerate missile attacks’, Israeli ambassador bluntly regarding action on Iran
Washington DC. Hopes for a ceasefire in West Asia have suffered a major setback. Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, openly defended the ongoing military operations against Iran, saying that no self-respecting country can tolerate repeated missile attacks on its citizens.
In a statement released on social media platform X, Lighter clarified that Israel’s actions were only targeting Iran’s surface-to-surface missile launch sites and non-energy infrastructure. He said that even in the neighboring country Lebanon, the attitude of the people has now turned against the influence of Iran and the people there are rejecting the Iran-backed organization Hezbollah.
The ambassador warned that if Hezbollah continued attacks on Israel, its command centers in Beirut’s Dahiya area would face strong military action. However, he also said that the ongoing actions in Lebanon and Israel’s direct operations against Tehran are separate issues.
Meanwhile, the ceasefire appeared to be completely broken in the early hours of Monday, when Iran fired ballistic missiles towards Israel for the first time since the ceasefire in April. In response, Israel launched airstrikes on several military targets in central and western parts of Iran. The sounds of explosions were heard in several cities of Iran including Isfahan, Tabriz, Karaj and Tehran.
