8th Pay Commission: Salary will increase from 18 thousand to 66240, you will be shocked to hear the amount of arrears
8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission has once again extended the deadline for public suggestions. All stakeholders can give their suggestions to the 8th Finance Commission till June 15. Earlier the deadline was March 5, 2026. Then it was extended to 30 April and then to 31 May. With the deadline continuously increasing, it seems that the Pay Commission will take time to submit its report. Therefore, this delay has started a heated debate among the employees regarding arrears.
Will central employees get arrears up to ₹14 lakh?
According to reports, central employees may get arrears ranging from ₹ 5 lakh to ₹ 14 lakh. Pay Commission is formed every 10 years. The 7th Finance Commission ended on December 31, 2025. Therefore, the 8th Finance Commission has come into effect from January 1, 2026. However, due to non-preparation of Pay Commission report, employees are still getting salary on the basis of 7th Pay Commission. After the implementation of the commission report, employees will get salary on the basis of 8th Pay Commission. Since Pay Commission is being implemented from January 1, a huge amount will be received as arrears.
How will the payment of arrears be decided?
Everything will depend on the fitment factor. Further decisions will be based on the fitment factor of the 8th Pay Commission. During the 7th Finance Commission, the fitment factor was fixed at 2.57. According to some reports, the fitment factor of 8th Pay Commission may be 3.68.
If this fitment factor is applied, the basic salary will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 66240. Monthly salary of government employees will increase by ₹ 48,240. Keeping in mind the arrears of 10 months, it comes to Rs 482400.
According to the 7th Pay Commission, the basic salary of a Cabinet Secretary rank officer is currently ₹ 482,400. If 3.68 fitment factor is applied, the basic salary can increase to ₹9,200,000. Monthly salary will increase by ₹670,000. In this case, the arrears of only two months will be ₹ 1,340,000. According to experts, fitment factor of 2.28 to 2.86 can be imposed for Central Government employees.
