After the renewed direct military action between the two countries on Monday, June 8, 2026, the Indian government has issued a major advisory regarding the safety of its citizens. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has given strict instructions to all Indians to leave Iran as soon as possible.
Embassy alert for Indian citizens
An official statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran said that in view of the recent developments in the region and the rapidly deteriorating security situation, no Indian citizen should travel to Iran at this time.
The embassy has said, ‘Indian nationals who are currently living in Iran are advised to leave the country immediately by any means possible.’ This warning has come at a time when the missile attacks that started late Sunday night have created an atmosphere of war in the entire region.

Direct conflict between Iran and Israel
According to reports, even before the results of the ongoing peace talks between America and Iran, Iran launched a major attack on Israel on Sunday night. Iran claims that it has taken this missile action in response to recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
A few hours later, in the early hours of Monday, Israel also retaliated strongly and launched fierce air strikes on several strategic targets of Iran including Tehran. After these attacks, tensions in West Asia have deepened and the threat of a full-scale war is looming.
Iran rocked by explosions
According to Iranian state television, powerful explosions were heard in major cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Karaj and Tabriz on Monday morning. Eyewitnesses living in the western part of Tehran confirmed at least one large explosion, which caused panic among the people.
In the wake of the Israeli attacks, Iran has closed the entire airspace around Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport due to security reasons. Iran’s paramilitary ‘Revolutionary Guard‘ (IRGC) has also informed that Israel has used ballistic missiles on a large scale in the Monday morning attack.

Government of India in touch with embassies
In view of the current situation, the Indian Government is in constant touch with its embassies in Tehran and Tel Aviv. A large number of Indian expatriates reside in West Asia, so the government does not want to take any risk regarding their security. The embassy has also appealed to Indians to exercise restraint and follow safety instructions from local authorities. Experts believe that if the conflict escalates further, its deep effects may be seen at the international level in the coming days.
