Hajipur: EOU’s raid on accountant’s premises, property worth crores including jewelery recovered
The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) is continuously taking action on cases of corruption and disproportionate assets in Bihar. In this series, raids were conducted on Thursday at the premises of Accountant Manish Kumar posted in Hajipur Municipal Council. The agency was also surprised to find indications of illegal assets worth crores of rupees in the initial phase of investigation. The Economic Offenses Unit conducted a simultaneous search operation at two locations of Hajipur Municipal Council Accountant Manish Kumar.
According to the EOU, preliminary investigation has found evidence against him of amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 2,02,31,500. The agency claims that this asset is about 208.57 percent more than his income. During the raid, the investigation team got many important information from the house in Bagmali, Hajipur. Information has come to light that there is a luxurious house, expensive Thar SUV, a large quantity of jewelery and other valuables.

However, officials say that the final assessment of the property will be done only after the search is completed and the documents are verified. As soon as the EOU team reached Hajipur on Thursday morning, the commotion increased at the Municipal Council office and related places. Different teams started investigation simultaneously in both the premises.
Action started after complaint
According to sources, a complaint of corruption and disproportionate assets was received against Manish Kumar. After finding grounds for the allegations in the initial investigation, EOU registered case number 10/26 and started further action. For the search, EOU had taken permission from the special surveillance court located in Muzaffarpur. The raid was conducted on Thursday after getting a warrant from the court.

In the last few years, during the action of the Vigilance Department and EOU in Bihar, many such cases have come to light in which property worth crores of rupees has been found in the hands of government employees working on small posts. After every new action, the question arises that how do low paid employees accumulate such huge wealth. However, in any case the final conclusion comes only after investigation, documentary evidence and judicial process is completed. At present, the investigation of the documents related to the property of this accountant of Hajipur Municipal Council is going on and the Economic Offenses Unit is investigating the entire matter in depth.
