Chennai: Actor Hrithik Roshan is set to make a special cameo appearance in the much-anticipated sequel Jailer 2, adding further star power to the action entertainer headlined by Rajinikanth.
The cameo will mark a rare on-screen reunion between Hrithik Roshan and Rajinikanth, who last appeared in the same film nearly four decades ago. Their only previous collaboration was the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada, which also marked Hrithik’s acting debut as a child artiste.
Reunion after four decades
In Bhagwaan Dada, a young Hrithik played the foster son of Rajinikanth’s character, making the upcoming appearance in Jailer 2 a significant milestone for both actors.
Over the years, Hrithik has often spoken about his admiration for Rajinikanth and his desire to work with the superstar again. The sequel now provides an opportunity for the two actors to share screen space once more after nearly 40 years.
The development has generated considerable excitement among fans of both stars, who are eager to witness the long-awaited reunion.
Action-packed role planned
According to reports, Hrithik Roshan has formally joined the project following discussions with the filmmakers.
He is expected to shoot his portions in Chennai on June 22 and 23. Sources indicate that multiple look tests are being conducted for the role, which is reportedly designed as an action-heavy appearance.
The cameo is said to occur at a crucial point in the storyline and is expected to play a significant role in advancing the narrative of the film.
Although brief, the appearance is reportedly being crafted as a memorable sequence within the larger storyline.
First project after War 2
The cameo marks Hrithik Roshan’s first confirmed project commitment following the release of War 2.
His participation in Jailer 2 is expected to attract audiences across multiple film industries, given his popularity in Hindi cinema and Rajinikanth’s massive fan following across India.
The collaboration also highlights the growing trend of pan-Indian casting in major film productions.
Star-studded ensemble
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 features an extensive ensemble cast.
Apart from Rajinikanth, the film reportedly includes Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi and Mithun Chakraborty.
The cast also features S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan and Yogi Babu.
Shah Rukh Khan reportedly exited project
Reports suggest that Shah Rukh Khan was previously considered for a cameo appearance in the film.
However, the actor reportedly stepped away from the project due to scheduling conflicts, paving the way for Hrithik Roshan’s inclusion.
While the filmmakers have not yet made an official announcement regarding the cameo, reports indicate that Hrithik’s participation has been finalised.
