Road accidents will break! India’s masterstroke for highway safety, ‘Asa’ will be the use of AI technology
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced on Thursday that it has deployed advanced ‘Network Survey Vehicles’ equipped with laser-based technology across the country. This is considered a significant step towards building an information-based and proactive maintenance system for India’s national highway network. These sophisticated vehicles are equipped with laser profilers, GPS systems, high-resolution cameras and advanced laser sensors.
Big action by RBI, registration of 135 NBFCs cancelled, highest number in Bengal, what is the real case?
What is the use of this?
The system is designed to survey highways and create detailed digital maps of road conditions. The system can identify defects such as potholes, cracks, patchwork and surface irregularities, enabling the concerned authorities to take timely corrective measures.
What does the ministry say?
According to the ministry, the initiative aims to improve the travel experience and strengthen road safety on national highways across the country. These NSV vehicles have already been deployed on several national highway corridors and this technology is expected to revolutionize the maintenance and management of road-related infrastructure. While traditional survey methods could only survey 20 to 80 kilometers of roads per day, these new generation vehicles are capable of surveying up to 300 kilometers per day.
Defects can be detected quickly
The ministry noted that this increased capacity will enable faster detection of road defects and significantly reduce the time required for repair work. According to the ministry, the technology has also greatly improved data processing and reporting; The raw survey data collected by the vehicles is encrypted and sent to the central NSV hub within 48 hours. Thereafter, expert teams deployed in five regions analyze the data and prepare reports. Earlier this entire process used to take 4 to 6 months, but now it can be completed in just 10 days. To ensure the accuracy of the information, each report goes through a rigorous quality check process before approval.
Human intervention will be reduced
After verification of the report, notices will be sent to the respective share holders through the digital platform. This will reduce human intervention and make the entire process more transparent. An important feature of this new system is its integration with the AI-based data lake portal of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). All information related to the survey will be uploaded directly to this platform, enabling experts to analyze the road condition in real-time and take fact-based decisions regarding maintenance and repairs.
