Rajya Sabha Election Result: NDA plants flag in Rajya Sabha! Opposition cried even after Kharge’s victory

A very big and sensational news is coming out regarding the Upper House of the Parliament i.e. Rajya Sabha. Apart from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and party’s strong leader Pawan Kheda, a total of 24 candidates, including veteran BJP leaders Satish Poonia and Tarun Chugh, have been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. After this result, the numbers game within the Parliament has completely changed.

Decision on 24 out of 27 seats was taken without elections

You will be surprised to know that out of total 27 seats of Rajya Sabha, 24 seats were decided without any voting i.e. unopposed. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has benefited the most in this. Out of these 24 seats, NDA candidates have won unilaterally on 19 seats alone, while only the remaining five seats have gone to the Congress. After this bumper victory, the NDA clan has become stronger in the Rajya Sabha.

Now there will be real riot only on these three seats

According to electoral mathematics, there is every possibility of a tough contest on two seats in Jharkhand. Along with this, voting will be held on June 18 for a total of three seats including one seat in Mizoram. Earlier, the work of scrutiny of nomination papers for the elections of 24 Rajya Sabha seats of ten states and by-elections for one seat each in Maharashtra, Odisha and Tamil Nadu was completed on Thursday. Election officials have also handed over certificates of victory to all the veteran leaders who won unopposed.

The contest between Jharkhand and Mizoram is very interesting

There are three candidates facing each other in the fray for the two Rajya Sabha seats of Jharkhand, making the contest quite exciting. These include Baidyanath Ram of JMM, Pranab Jha of Congress and Reliance Industries director Parimal Nathwani, who is contesting as an independent but has the full support of BJP. Currently INDIA alliance has 56 MLAs in Jharkhand Assembly and each candidate will need 28 first preference votes to win. Whereas BJP has 21 MLAs, while Nitish Kumar’s party JDU, LJP (Ram Vilas) and AJSU have one MLA each.

On the other hand, there is going to be a direct contest for Mizoram’s only Rajya Sabha seat between the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) spokesperson K Laltaluangkima and the main opposition party Mizo National Front (MNF)’s Zothansangi Hamar.

Big game played in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka

BJP has made a clean sweep in the biennial Rajya Sabha elections held in Madhya Pradesh. Here all three BJP candidates – Tarun Chugh, Rajneesh Aggarwal and Mahesh Kewat were declared winners without any opposition.

On the other hand, in Karnataka, four candidates including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been elected unopposed. Apart from Kharge, these include Congress Secretary Mansoor Ali Khan, Pawan Kheda and BJP’s M Nagaraj. Let us tell you that the tenure of four current Rajya Sabha members from Karnataka – Eranna Kadadi, Narayana Koragappa (both BJP), Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress and JDS leader HD Deve Gowda – is ending on June 25, after which elections were announced to fill these seats. With this election, the more than five decades long and historic innings of former PM HD Deve Gowda in Parliament will end.

Who won in Gujarat, Andhra and Rajasthan?

The ruling BJP has won four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat. Here all four BJP candidates – Rajubhai Shukla, Mansingh Parmar, Mukeshbhai Rathwa and Jitendra Kanjariya were declared winners.

In Andhra Pradesh too, all four NDA candidates have reached the Upper House after being elected unopposed. Of these, three are from Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and one from Janasena Party. Bashyam Ramakrishna, C Vijay (son of Assembly Speaker C Ayyannapatarudu) and Sana Satish Babu have won from TDP, while Lingamaneni Ramesh has won from Janasena.

Talking about Rajasthan, here two candidates of BJP and one of Congress have been elected unopposed. Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar from BJP while Neeraj Dangi from Congress will now represent the state in Rajya Sabha.

Wave of unopposed victory from Northeast to South India

National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s brother James K Sangma has been elected unopposed from Meghalaya. This seat became vacant after the completion of the tenure of Wanweiroy Kharlukhi. Manipur state BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi and senior BJP leader Tai Tagak from Arunachal Pradesh were elected unopposed.

Talking about by-elections, NCP’s Rajendra Jain has been elected unopposed from Maharashtra. Whereas in Odisha, Devashish Samantrai, who left Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined BJP, has reached Rajya Sabha unopposed being the only candidate. Congress candidate from Tamil Nadu, Praveen Chakraborty, who was supported by the ruling Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), has also been declared the winner unopposed. This seat fell vacant after the resignation of AIADMK leader C Shanmugam.
