Phones ringing with ‘Extreme Severe’ weather alert in Delhi-NCR, warning of strong storm, rain and hailstorm
New Delhi. In other areas of Delhi-NCR, people’s mobile phones suddenly rang with an emergency alert message on Thursday evening. In this message, ‘extremely severe alert’ was issued, predicting extremely bad weather during the next 3 hours. In the alert sent by the Meteorological Department, it was said that there is a possibility of strong storm, lightning, moderate to heavy rain and hailstorm in some areas of the concerned districts. The department advised people to remain alert and come out of their homes only when necessary.
According to the alert, the speed of storm winds can reach 70 to 100 kilometers per hour, which can create the danger of falling trees, affecting power supply and disrupting traffic. In view of the possibility of lightning, a warning was also given to avoid standing in open places, fields and under trees. Shortly after the Meteorological Department’s alert, strong winds started blowing and light rain was recorded in many areas of Gurugram and North-West Delhi. This sudden change in the weather brought relief to the people from the scorching heat, although the administration and the meteorological department have appealed to be cautious in view of the bad weather.
About two hours after the first alert, the department once again issued a ‘very serious warning’ and expressed the possibility of the weather worsening during the next 3 hours. The Meteorological Department said in the warning that there is a possibility of strong thunderstorm and storm in some areas of the district. During this period, strong winds can blow at a speed of 70 to 100 kilometers per hour. Additionally, there is a high possibility of lightning, moderate to heavy rain and hailstorm. The department has appealed to people to avoid standing in open spaces, weak structures and under trees.
According to the Meteorological Department, changes in weather may be seen in the capital and surrounding areas. The department has also predicted that the sky may remain cloudy from June 14 to June 16. During this period, intermittent rain and thunderstorm activities can be seen. Meteorologists believe that this change in the weather of the capital is due to pre-monsoon activities.
The weather in Delhi has become pleasant due to movement of clouds, drizzle and strong winds.
