T20 World Cup 2026 Prize Money: Historic increase in women’s cricket, ICC made a big announcement
Tezzbuzz Desk- The International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken a big and historic decision to take women’s cricket to new heights. There has been a huge increase in the prize money for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in England, making this tournament the biggest Women’s T20 World Cup till date.
The tournament will start from June 12 and 12 teams will participate in it for the first time. This time a total of 33 matches will be played on seven different grounds in England. The increased format and prize money have made this World Cup even more special.
According to the new prize money announced by ICC, the team that becomes champion will get an amount of $ 2.34 million i.e. more than Rs 22 crore. Whereas the runner-up team will be given 1.17 million dollars i.e. approximately Rs 11 crore. The losing teams in the semi-finals will also get approximately Rs 6.56 crore.
Apart from this, all the teams will be given a guaranteed amount of $ 247,500 (about Rs 2 crore) to participate in the tournament. An additional bonus of about Rs 29 lakh has also been fixed for every win in the league stage.
In the new format of the tournament, 12 teams have been divided into two groups. There will be 6-6 teams in each group, which will play against each other. The top-2 teams of both the groups will reach the semi-finals.
Group-1 includes India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and Netherlands. Whereas Group-2 will have teams from England, New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Scotland and Ireland.
The Indian team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, is considered a strong contender for the title this time. Now it remains to be seen whether Team India is successful in winning its first Women’s T20 World Cup or not.
