Famous shooter Jaspal Rana passes away, was undergoing treatment in hospital for a long time

Indian shooting legend and famous coach Jaspal Rana died on Friday at the age of 49. Earlier this week, his health suddenly deteriorated, after which he was admitted to the hospital. Rana, who is working as a high-performance coach for India’s pistol shooters, felt uneasy while returning to India from the ISSF World Cup held in Munich (Germany). After reaching Delhi, he was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket, where he was treated. On 12 June, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) confirmed his death. A wave of mourning has arisen in the sports world due to the news that the sports world is in shock due to this news.

One of India’s most famous pistol shooters, Jaspal Rana made his mark at the international level in the 1990s. He brought glory to the country by winning many medals in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships. At a time when sports like shooting were not very popular in India, Rana made his mark in the world of shooting with his brilliant performance. His journey and brilliant successes inspired the young generation of the country to make a career in this sport.

Jaspal Rana was also the coach of star shooter Manu Bhaker.

After retiring from playing, Rana entered the world of coaching and soon became one of the most influential coaches in Indian shooting. In 2012, he took charge of the Junior Pistol Program as part of the National Coaching System. For the next ten years, he worked to nurture young talent at the grassroots level. Under his supervision, excellent shooters like Saurabh Chaudhary, Anish Bhanwala and Chinki Yadav got training, who later put India on the world level. The most historic chapter of his coaching is with star shooter Manu Bhaker. Rana groomed Manu at a crucial juncture in her career, after which Manu Bhakar created history by winning bronze medals in the women’s 10m air pistol and mixed team events at the Paris Olympics 2024.
