The Central Government made such an announcement that rural families will rejoice with joy.
PMAY G Migrant Worker Rules 2026: A very big and relief-filled good news is coming from the Central Government for millions of migrant laborers and poor families living in rural areas of the country. Modi government has issued a very important and big clarification regarding Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). After this new step of the government, now no eligible poor family can be deprived of the benefit of government pucca house merely because he has been living outside his village in some other city for some time for the maintenance of his family or for employment.
It has often been seen that people living in villages move to cities in search of work, after which they fear that their name might be removed from the government list due to living away from the village. But now the Union Rural Development Ministry has turned milk into water on this matter. While giving official information to the Central Information Commission (CIC), the Ministry has made it completely clear that no such rule, law or order has been issued by the Government, in which migrant laborers can be shown the way out of this welfare scheme just because they live outside the village.
Rural families working outside will also be able to avail full benefits now
A large number of families from rural areas of India go to other big cities or neighboring states to work as laborers in search of livelihood and better employment. There was always a deep worry in the minds of such families that due to not being in the village, they would get the benefits of the government’s ambitious schemes or their rights would be taken away.
The Ministry of Rural Development has completely eliminated this doubt and said that if any rural family fulfills the necessary eligibility and guidelines set for this scheme, then it cannot be completely separated from the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin on the basis of ‘temporary migration’ alone. This means that now even people working as laborers in the city will be able to easily realize their dream of having a permanent house in the village.
This big clarification from the government came in response to RTI
Let us tell you that this very important information has come out from the Central Government during the hearing of an RTI (Right to Information) appeal. In fact, an applicant had asked this sharp question to the Ministry under the Right to Information Act that whether rural families who go out of their native village for some time in connection with employment or any other work can be prevented from the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and other rural welfare schemes?
Giving a written reply to this serious question, the Ministry clarified that the Central Government does not have any special guideline, circular or strict policy rule under which families living outside the village should be prevented from being given their rights or they should be evicted from the scheme.
The house will be allotted solely on the basis of eligibility rules.
Explaining the functioning of the scheme, the Union Ministry said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, the selection of genuine and entitled beneficiaries is done in a completely transparent manner on the basis of strict rules and guidelines already decided by the Central Government. However, the real responsibility of fully implementing this big scheme on the ground and allocating houses rests with the respective state governments.
This simply and clearly means that to get the benefit of a government pucca house, it is most important for the family to be economically and socially eligible. If the family is poor and homeless as per the rules, mere stay out of the village for some time due to employment can never in itself be a legal reason for withholding its benefits or striking off its name from the list.
Lakhs of migrant labor families of the country will get huge relief
This new and clear clarification issued by the government is expected to provide huge mental and economic relief to millions of migrant laborers of the country, who are forced to leave their native villages and live in remote areas to satisfy their hunger and for the future of their children. Now merely staying out temporarily will not be considered as any kind of legal hindrance in availing the benefits of this welfare scheme of the government.
It is noteworthy that the main and sole objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin is to provide a strong permanent house to all the eligible poor and homeless families living in rural areas of the country, so that even the people standing at the lowest rung of the society can get a respectable and better housing facility. With this stance of the government, this scheme is now expected to gain further momentum.
