South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, voted the world’s second-best airport after Changi in the 2026 Skytrax awards, have stepped up immigration staffing in anticipation of a surge in foreign visitors arriving for a major BTS concert.
The two-day event, which begins on Friday in the southeastern city of Busan, is expected to draw thousands of international fans to the country, prompting the airport to increase the number of officers on duty for four days starting Wednesday, The Korea Times reported.
The move is aimed at easing congestion and ensuring smooth immigration procedures during the busy travel period.
According to data from the airport, foreign arrivals through Incheon on Thursday reached about 48,660, a 15% increase from a week earlier.
South Korean authorities said they will deploy additional supervisory and support personnel across immigration inspection halls and closely monitor foreign arrivals by flight to ease congestion and improve passenger flow, Seoul Economic Daily reported.
Authorities pointed to a similar surge in arrivals during BTS concerts held in April, when the number of foreign visitors entering through Incheon International Airport jumped 26% above normal levels.
Tens of thousands of BTS fans are expected to flock to South Korea’s second largest city Busan on Friday as the seven-member K-pop group stages its second stop in the country as part of their Arirang tour.
