Salman Khan got angry as soon as the teaser of ‘Black Deer’ was released, knocked on the door of Delhi High Court, demanding a ban on the release of the film.

Recently, Salman Khan has moved the Delhi High Court seeking interim relief against the makers of the film ‘Blackbuck: The Battle for Legacy’. He has accused the film producer of “gross violation of personality rights”.

Salman Khan alleges that the film is based on the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, which is like tarnishing his public image. In the teaser of the film, the actor has kept the same dressing style as Salman Khan.

Salman Khan reached court

Salman Khan has filed an application against this film under Order XXXIX Rules 1 and 2 of the Code of Civil Procedure in a commercial suit already pending in the High Court. In this application, the film’s producer Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, director Bharat Srinate, Akshay Pandey and other persons associated with the project have been sought to be restrained from producing, promoting, distributing, exhibiting, streaming or releasing the film till the decision of the case. Salman Khan argues that even though his name is not explicitly used in the film, audiences can easily identify him from the film’s posters, promotional materials and public statements from people associated with the project.

The application also cites media reports and public statements quoting producer Amit Jani, in which the proposed film is said to be inspired by the black buck case and the controversy involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The petition filed by Salman Khan cites interviews, social media posts and promotional materials that allegedly link the film to Khan, and argues that these materials are being used to generate publicity and commercial interest by taking advantage of his public image. Salman Khan had earlier issued a legal notice on April 24, 2026, calling on those associated with the project to stop the development, production and promotion of the film. The application states that despite the notice, the promotional activities allegedly continued, prompting the actor to seek immediate judicial intervention.

What is the black buck controversy

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was convicted by a lower court in Jodhpur in 2018 for hunting two endangered blackbucks during the shooting of the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ and sentenced to five years in jail. According to a PTI report, prime accused Salman Khan was sentenced by the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (Jodhpur district), while the other accused – Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, Neelam and a local resident, Dushyant Singh – have been acquitted.

Twenty years later, a lower court in Rajasthan convicted Salman Khan and sentenced him to five years in prison on April 5, 2018. He was later released from Jodhpur jail after being granted bail by the Sessions Court.
