Emergency alert reached PM’s phone at midnight! Then the government immediately stopped this service
Tezzbuzz Desk – If in the past few days you have suddenly received an emergency alert on your mobile phone with a loud beeping sound, then you are not alone. Lakhs of mobile users across the country had received such alerts. Actually, the government was testing the Cell Broadcast Alert System to provide immediate information to the people during disaster or emergency. However, now this system has been stopped for the time being, due to which many questions have arisen.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an order stating that due to some technical and administrative issues, this service has been temporarily put on hold. However, no official information has been shared regarding the reason behind this decision.
What is the reason for the dispute?
According to media reports, recently a mock alert was issued at midnight by the disaster management units of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. It is being told that this alert also reached some such numbers, which are usually kept apart from such test messages. After this, discussion started among the concerned agencies regarding the functioning of this system.
However, these claims have not been confirmed by the government or NDMA. Officials have only said that the system is being reviewed and a further decision will be taken after necessary improvements are made.
What is Cell Broadcast Alert System?
Cell Broadcast is a modern alert system, which works differently from normal SMS. In this, alerts can be sent simultaneously to all the mobile phones present in a particular area. It does not require internet and the message can reach millions of people in a few seconds.
This system is specially designed to immediately alert people during floods, cyclones, heavy rains, earthquakes or other natural disasters. With its help, the administration can send real-time warnings to the citizens of any affected area.
Why is this technology important?
In a huge country like India, every second is precious during a disaster. In such a situation, the Cell Broadcast system can inform people in time to go to safe places or take necessary precautions. This is the reason why it is being considered a major technical achievement in the disaster management system of the country.
Will the service start again?
Experts believe that this service has not been stopped completely, but has been stopped temporarily for technical glitches and procedural improvements. There is a possibility that it may be restarted after making necessary changes.
At present people do not need to panic. If any disaster alert is issued in future, the concerned agencies will continue to provide information to the people through other available means.
