Maharashtra: Pickup loaded with devotees fell into a well in Solapur, 8 people died.

Solapur (Maharashtra), June 14. A tragic accident took place in Malshiras taluka of Solapur district in Maharashtra on Sunday, when a pickup loaded with devotees fell into a well. Eight people traveling in the vehicle died in the accident while the administration and local people saved six other people.

Actually, a similar incident had happened in Nashik a few days ago. However, the Nashik incident took place at night while the Malshiras incident took place during the day. The bodies of the eight people who died due to drowning in the accident have been taken out from the well. All 15 people were residents of Ranjani village of Pandharpur taluka and it is being said that they were returning after offering prayers at Siddhanth temple.

The accident occurred near Tandulwadi village on Mhaswad-Pandharpur road in Malshiras taluka. The well is located in a field adjacent to the road. Its boundary wall was not high and it was filled with water, into which the pickup fell. However, the exact cause of the accident is not yet known.

Solapur Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni said, ‘According to initial information, the driver of a pickup van carrying 15 people lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle fell into a well on the roadside. Four women and four children died in this accident while seven other people were injured. He said that the injured have been taken to the nearest hospital.

Expressing grief over the incident, Solapur in-charge minister Jaikumar Gore said, ‘The death of the devotees is a very unfortunate incident. I am collecting information from the police. We will verify whether the well had a parapet wall or not and will take action against those responsible.

NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar expressed grief over the accident and called it very painful, unfortunate and heart-wrenching. He wrote in the X post, ‘Tribute to the dead! We all share the grief of the families of the victims. Along with investigating the cause of this accident, the government machinery should immediately help in rescue operations.
