Belgium faces Egypt test – Tezzbuzz
Seattle, June 15:
Belgium will look to put their World Cup disappointments behind them when they open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Egypt in what could prove to be the decisive match in Group G.
Ranked ninth in the world by FIFA, Belgium enter the tournament with lofty ambitions, while 29th-ranked Egypt are appearing in only their fourth World Cup finals.
The Red Devils suffered a shock group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar despite winning their opening game against Canada. They then failed to score against Croatia and Morocco, finishing third in the group and crashing out early.
Under coach Rudi Garcia, Belgium are hoping to revive the fortunes of their ageing golden generation, which has yet to reach a major final despite boasting some of the world’s top talents over the past decade.
Belgium qualified comfortably for the tournament, topping their group with 18 points from eight matches, scoring 29 goals and conceding only seven.
