Mamata Challenge Suvendu: Mamata Banerjee’s new move against Subhendu Adhikari, petition filed in Calcutta High Court in this matter

Kolkata. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has launched a new maneuver against CM Shubhendu Adhikari. Mamata Banerjee filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday against the results of Kolkata’s Bhawanipur assembly seat. Mamata Banerjee along with TMC MPs Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen and Kalyan Banerjee reached the Calcutta High Court and signed the petition and related papers there. Mamata Banerjee was defeated by West Bengal CM Subhendu Adhikari on Bhawanipur seat.

Shubhendu Adhikari had defeated Mamata Banerjee by 15104 votes in Bhawanipur assembly seat. Mamata Banerjee reached the counting center in the final phase of counting of votes and alleged that she was being defeated by adopting wrong methods. Mamta said that till the last round, she was far ahead of Shubhendu Adhikari, but later the officers involved in counting the votes made a mistake and got the votes counted in favor of Shubhendu Adhikari. It is believed that Mamata Banerjee’s lawyers will present the same argument in the Calcutta High Court.

Subhendu Adhikari has not defeated Mamata Banerjee for the first time. Earlier in the year 2021 also, Shubhendu Adhikari had defeated Mamata Banerjee by about 1900 votes from Nandigram assembly seat of West Bengal. Even at that time, Mamata Banerjee had alleged that she was defeated due to power failure during the counting of votes. However, she neither approached the Election Commission nor went to the High Court against her defeat. After that defeat, Shobhandev Chatterjee, the then winning TMC MLA from Bhawanipur, had vacated the seat. After which Mamta Banerjee was elected MLA from Bhawanipur in the by-election. This time in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Shubhendu Adhikari had filed nomination from Nandigram as well as Bhawanipur seat. Shubhendu Adhikari had announced that like Nandigram, he would defeat Mamata in Bhawanipur also and he did so.
