Kolkata Red Road closed before PM Modi’s Yoga Day program!

Kolkata Police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the International Yoga Day event in the city on June 21 and said that Red Road will remain closed for a week.

Kolkata Police said in a post on social media, “In connection with the celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day on Red Road on June 21, special traffic rules will be in force in the surrounding areas. “Passengers are requested to plan their journey accordingly and follow the instructions of the traffic policemen.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Kolkata to participate in the World Yoga Day program on June 21. The Prime Minister will participate in the main program to be held on Red Road. Along with this, the entire city will join the program on that day.

According to the advisory, Red Road, one of the busiest roads in Kolkata, will remain closed for traffic for a week in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event. In view of this big event, the work of building a temporary stage has already started.

The advisory states that from 2 am on June 21 till the end of the program, there will be a ban on movement of all types of goods carrying vehicles. This restriction will be applicable on AJC Bose Road from Lenin Sarani (Moulali Crossing) southbound, St. George’s Gate Road, Strand Road to Raja Woodmunt Street, CR Avenue from GC Avenue southbound, and JL Nehru Road (both sides).

“Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) will remain closed for all vehicles from 2 am on June 21 till the end of the event, except those carrying stickers issued specifically for the event,” the advisory said.

Many roads will remain closed for traffic from 2 am on June 21 till the end of the program. These roads include Hospital Road East, West Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Casuarina Avenue, Khidirpur Road and other roads. People using these routes must read the traffic police advisory and plan their journey accordingly.
