India explodes with Gill-Ishaan’s centuries, defeats Afghanistan by 170 runs and captures the series

New Delhi: In the second ODI match played at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the Indian team performed brilliantly and defeated Afghanistan by a huge margin of 170 runs. With this victory, India has achieved an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Both the batsmen and bowlers showed excellent performance, due to which the host team completely controlled the match.

Indian innings stabilized after initial shock

After losing the toss, India had to bat first. However, the team’s start was not as expected and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the pavilion after scoring only 4 runs. After this, Rohit Sharma and captain Shubman Gill took charge of the innings and scored runs rapidly. Both the batsmen made important partnerships for the second wicket and put pressure on the Afghanistan bowlers.

Rohit Sharma missed a brilliant half-century and was out after scoring 48 runs in 39 balls, but by then India was in a strong position.

Gill and Ishaan wreaked havoc

After Rohit’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan displayed aggressive batting. Both the batsmen made a huge partnership of 224 runs for the third wicket and completely turned the match towards India. Captain Gill showed an excellent mix of patience and aggression and completed his century in 77 balls.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan batted even faster and scored a century in just 71 balls. Ishaan played a brilliant inning of 125 runs, while Gill played an important role in taking the team to a huge score by scoring 154 runs.

However, in the last overs, the Indian team lost some early wickets and despite having the possibility of reaching 450 runs at one time, the innings ended at 402 runs.

Bowlers also played the responsibility

Chasing the target of 403 runs, the Afghanistan team looked under pressure from the very beginning. Due to the fall of wickets at regular intervals, the team could never make a comeback in the match and the entire innings was reduced to 232 runs.

Indian fast bowlers performed brilliantly and destroyed the opposition batting order. Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar took three wickets each. ODI debutant Prince Yadav also impressed and took two wickets, while Washington Sundar got one wicket.
