The U.S. dollar strengthened against the Vietnamese dong Wednesday morning while trading mostly firm against major currencies.

Vietcombank sold the greenback at VND26,433, a 0.04% jump from Tuesday. On the black market, the currency was hovering at around VND26,410.

The State Bank of Vietnam hiked its reference rate by 0.04% to VND25,175.

Globally, the dollar eased on Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve’s first policy decision under Chair Kevin Warsh, with lingering optimism over an interim U.S.-Iran peace deal underpinning risk appetite and weakening demand for the U.S. currency, Reuters reported.

Against a basket of ‌currencies, the dollar eased slightly to 99.53, unwinding some of its earlier safe-haven gains.

The euro steadied at $1.1611 while sterling was little changed at $1.3430. The New Zealand dollar edged slightly higher to $0.5833. Elsewhere, the Australian dollar was flat at $0.7066.

The yen last stood at 160.43 per dollar, leaving traders on alert for any potential intervention from Japanese authorities to shore up the ailing currency.
