Indian women’s cricket team on Wednesday defeated Netherlands by 95 runs with the help of explosive half-centuries by openers Smriti Mandhana (74 runs, 47 balls, one six, 11 fours) and Shafali Verma (55 runs, 38 balls, 10 fours) and reached the top in Group One of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup with the second consecutive win.

Smriti-Shefali’s century partnership, India’s biggest score in the World Cup
After being invited to bat first at Headingley Ground, ‘Player of the Match’ Smriti and Shefali blasted the weak Dutch bowling attack and made an explosive partnership of 115 runs on 71 balls for the first wicket. With this, the Indian team managed to make its highest score in World Cup history by making a strong score of 209 runs for five wickets.

The Dutch team fell to 114 in front of Shri Charani, Shefali and Nandani.
In reply, the Netherlands were all out for 114 runs in 17.3 overs in front of spinners Sri Charani (4-19), who took all four wickets in 12 balls, and Shefali (3-20) and pacer Nandani Sharma (2-22). Captain Babette de Leede (28 runs, 27 balls, three fours) proved to be the top scorer for the Dutch team, which suffered its second consecutive defeat. The team lost the last seven wickets within 23 balls.

India’s biggest win in terms of runs in the tournament
Interestingly, this also proved to be India’s biggest win in terms of runs in the tournament. Before this, Indian women had defeated Sri Lanka by 82 runs on October 9, 2024.

Smriti’s second consecutive fifty
If we look at the Indian innings, while Mandhana scored her second consecutive half-century, Shefali scored her first half-century in the tournament. Apart from these two, wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh (20 runs, eight balls, two sixes, one four), Jemimah Rodrigues (19 runs, 13 balls, two fours), captain Harmanpreet Kaur (12 runs, nine balls, two fours) and Deepti Sharma (10 runs not out, two balls, one six, one four) also showed strong hands and the team crossed 200.
India will now face South Africa on June 21
