Supreme Court On CBSE’s Three Language Policy: Supreme Court refuses to immediately put a stay on CBSE’s three language policy, now hearing will be held on July 14

New Delhi. A petition filed against the decision to implement the three-language policy of CBSE was heard in the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court has refused to put an immediate stop to this. The court said that any order can be given on this only after a detailed hearing. The bench headed by Supreme Court CJI Justice Surya Kant directed to tag this petition filed by an organization named Friends of People for Active Democracy for hearing along with other related petitions. The bench has fixed July 14 for the next hearing of the case.

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice V. Mohan said that other similar petitions have already been heard in detail, hence this new petition should also be tagged with other petitions related to the case. CJI Surya Kant raised questions and made sharp remarks about the name of the organization that filed the petition, Friends of People for Active Democracy. He asked whether such a name has been kept to create fear in the court or in the minds of people? On this, the petitioner’s lawyer told the court that it is an NGO which was established in the year 2013.

Earlier in the hearing, the Supreme Court had asked CBSE and NCERT to file a detailed reply in this matter. In almost all the petitions related to this case, an interim stay was demanded on the implementation of the three language policy in CBSE board schools in the new session starting from July 1, 2026. Let us tell you that CBSE has made the study of three languages compulsory in class 9. These three languages will be different and it is mandatory to have two Indian languages.
