FIFA World Cup: Colombia coach Lorenzo not satisfied despite the victory!

Colombia made a winning start to its World Cup journey with a 3-1 win over Uzbekistan in Group ‘K’ of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Wednesday. Daniel Muñoz, Luis Diaz and Jaminton Campaz scored for Colombia. However, even after this victory of Colombia, head coach Nestor Lorenzo did not seem completely satisfied. He believes that the team’s performance was below its best.

“In the first half, we could have created a bigger advantage. We fell short in finishing. Their players were often too cautious in possession and failed to convert good moves into goals. No one was able to complete the moves,” Lorenzo was quoted as saying by Xinhua after the match.

There were more than 80,000 spectators in the stadium. Most of the fans were supporting their team in Colombia jersey.

Lorenzo praised the enthusiastic support of the fans on the field and said that this occasion may have put more pressure on some members of his team. I think it had to do with the emotional burden of the first match and the responsibility of being favourites.

Lorenzo said of captain James Rodriguez, “It wasn’t his best match, but he didn’t have a bad game. He closed down areas where James usually plays better. He wasn’t a hero, but in possession, he gave us a lot.”

Colombia’s next match will be against DR Congo on Tuesday in Guadalajara. Colombia would like to win this match and get closer to the knockout stage. However, Colombia will not take DR Congo lightly. Congo has held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in its first match itself.
