Jharkhand Rajya Sabha Elections: Parimal Nathwani and Baijnath declared elected!

The results of the elections for two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand have come out. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Baijnath Ram and NDA-backed independent candidate Parimal Nathwani have won, while Congress-backed candidate Pranab Jha had to face defeat.

The result has not been officially announced, but Parimal Nathwani, while giving information about his victory on social media, has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, NDA and BJP.

According to the vote counting, JMM candidate Baijnath Ram got 31 votes and BJP-backed Parimal Nathwani got 28 votes. The 2 votes cast in his favor were declared invalid. Congress’s Pranab Jha has got 21 votes. A vote cast in his favor has been cancelled. In this way, the candidates supported by India Alliance and NDA, contesting on both the seats of Rajya Sabha, registered one seat each in their account.

Parimal Nathwani has written on social media that getting the opportunity to serve as a Rajya Sabha member for the fourth time is a matter of pride and responsibility for him. He said that this will be his third term from Jharkhand and his parliamentary journey started from this state in the year 2008.

Expressing his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP leadership and NDA, Nathwani said that he will continue to work with full commitment for the interests and development of Jharkhand. Earlier, all 81 MLAs exercised their franchise in the voting held in the assembly premises.

All prominent leaders of the ruling party and the opposition, including Chief Minister Hemant Soren, voted. The last vote of the day was cast by JMM leader and minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu. After the voting was completed peacefully, the counting of votes started late in the evening and the results were declared. There was special interest in political circles regarding Rajya Sabha elections.

India Alliance had fielded JMM’s Baijnath Ram and Congress’ Pranab Jha, while NDA-backed Parimal Nathwani was contesting as an independent candidate. Before voting, both the camps had held meetings and strategic exercises to keep their respective MLAs united.
