2 Asian airports drop out of world’s most beautiful list
Four Asian representatives included in the 2026 list were Terminal 3 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China, Techo International Airport in Cambodia, Terminal 2 of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in India and Terminal 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport in India.
The list includes Terminal 3 of Frankfurt Airport in Germany, Pittsburgh International Airport in the United States, and Terminal 1 of San Diego International Airport in the United States.
The world’s most beautiful airports were selected for their architectural excellence, distinctive design features, panoramic surroundings and the integration of green, nature-inspired spaces that enhance the passenger experience.
Leading the 2026 Asian entries is Terminal 3 at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, which opened on Oct. 30, 2025, as part of the airport’s major “five-runway, three-terminal” expansion.
The terminal is designed around Guangzhou’s identity as China’s “Flower City” and features a main building with three concourses. It supports both domestic and international operations, equipped with 199 check-in counters, 60 self-service kiosks, and 87 jet bridges.
At Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Terminal 2 is designed as a contemporary architectural tribute to Assam and Northeast India. Its design language draws heavily from traditional bamboo craftsmanship and the kopou phool orchid, reflecting the region’s cultural and ecological identity, British magazine Time Out reported.
At Navi Mumbai International Airport, Terminal 1, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in collaboration with Arup, takes inspiration from the lotus flower. The terminal features a sweeping roofline, sculptural column structures, and a dramatic steel-and-glass architectural form that emphasizes fluidity and modernity.
Techo International Airport is 30 km from the center of Phnom Penh and features a 87,000 square-meter-wide terminal, with a design that captures natural light through large glass panels, light-colored wooden floors, and many tropical green areas.
The airport has a curved dome, inspired by the headgear of traditional Apsara dancers.
