When I find a brand I like, I stick with it. It’s partly because I’m a fairly risk-averse person, but also because I strongly believe that if something isn’t broken, I shouldn’t fix it. Well, there’s nothing broken about Brooks. For over a decade, I’ve run in the brand’s Adrenaline sneakersloving their lightweight feel and the extra support they give my weak ankles. Today, my collection also includes a few Ghost styles and a couple of Glycerins. While I still only wear the Adrenalines to run, I fell so hard and fast for the Ghost 17 sneakers that I rarely walk without them. What sets this walking shoe apart is its soft, flexible cushioning. I’ve never once felt weighed down by the sneaker, even when I’m approaching the eighth mile of a particularly long weekend walk. I’ve also come to love how secure my foot feels without any of the rigidity I expect from the Adrenalines. Unlike the latter, which have foam rails built into the sides to keep my shins and heels from over-rotating, the Ghost 17s emphasize support and comfort. While still stabilizing, my feet are relaxed and my movements are less limited.

What it all boils down to is this: The Ghost 17s are a fantastic neutral shoe. With a moderate amount of both support and cushioning, its design is ideal for many bodies. Even for someone like me, with weak ankles and a tendency to pronate, I thrive in them.
