Rain wreaks havoc in North Bengal, helpline number released for tourists…

Siliguri/Darjeeling. The situation remains serious due to continuous heavy rains in North Bengal. Life in the hilly and Terai areas has been badly affected. In such a situation, the West Bengal government has issued helpline numbers keeping in mind the safety of tourists.

About 200 mm of rain has been recorded in the last 24 hours, due to which the water level of Balasan river has increased rapidly. A temporary bridge has been washed away in the Dudhi area of ​​Kurseong, cutting off connectivity between Siliguri and Mirik.

At the same time, landslides have occurred at many places on National Highway-110, due to which traffic has been disrupted. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Darjeeling MP Raju Bisht visited the spot, took stock of the situation and talked about a permanent solution.

Meanwhile, Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shankar Ghosh said that tourists are facing a lot of trouble due to heavy rains. Keeping this in mind, two helpline numbers have been issued.

These numbers are 1800-021-21655 and 0353-2513986. Tourists can get any kind of help or information by calling these numbers.

Also, advisory has been issued in view of landslides and bad weather in Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The administration has appealed to all tourists to stay at safe places and follow the instructions of the local administration.

It is noteworthy that last year also the main bridge of Dudhiya was damaged in the rain, after which a temporary bridge was built. But this time it got washed away at the beginning of monsoon, due to which there is an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the area.
