Today’s college students dream of careers in AI, robotics, data science or space technology. But, all these advanced technologies have now been combined in the automobile sector. Today’s cars are not limited to engines and workshops, they have become ‘smartphones on wheels’ equipped with software, sensors and artificial intelligence. In India, the third largest automobile market in the world, this revolution has increased the demand for skilled professionals.
Opportunities in EV and AI
The electric vehicle revolution has created new positions such as battery engineers, EV design specialists, charging infrastructure planners and thermal management engineers. Also, ‘advanced driver assistance systems’ (ADAS) in cars, predictive maintenance and voice recognition have created great opportunities for software developers, data analysts and cyber security experts similar to the IT sector.

Not only for engineers!
It is a misconception that only engineers have scope in automobile field. There are many career paths open to students from science, commerce or humanities in design, marketing, supply chain management, digital media and business development. Moreover, startups in EV charging, battery recycling and mobility platforms are attracting huge investment and encouragement to young entrepreneurs.

The skills learned in this field are internationally applicable, giving students the opportunity to pursue a global career. However, to succeed in this changing era, an academic degree alone is not enough, but technical skills, digital capabilities and a willingness to continuously learn are essential.
