Rishabh Pant will return to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2027, breaks ties with Lucknow

New Delhi: Rishabh Pant, who was the captain of Lucknow Super Giants till IPL 2026, can now once again be seen in the jersey of Delhi Capitals. According to the report of Cricbuzz, Delhi Capitals have started the process of trade deal with Lucknow Super Giants and Pant’s return is considered almost certain.

However, in this deal, Pant may have to take a big cut in salary. He was getting Rs 27 crore in Lucknow, but he may have to suffer financial loss on coming to Delhi. The chances of getting captaincy are also said to be less.

Left the captaincy after poor performance

Pant left the captaincy of Lucknow in IPL 2026. The team finished 10th and Pant’s bat did not even work. After two consecutive flops, he resigned from the captaincy, which was accepted by the franchise.

Then it was being said that he could remain with Lucknow as a player, but now the picture has become clear. Pant has made up his mind to return to his old team Delhi Capitals and trade talks have started.

Was bought for Rs 27 crores, magic did not work

Lucknow Super Giants bought Pant for Rs 27 crore in the 2025 mega auction and also handed over the captaincy. Team owner Sanjeev Goenka had said that Pant will lead the team for the next 10-15 years.

But Pant’s performance in IPL 2025 was not as expected. Runs were not scored with the bat and the team’s performance also continued to decline. Fans were hopeful that he would make a comeback in the next season, but the same story was repeated in IPL 2026. The team remained at the bottom of the points table and Pant left the captaincy.

New innings with Yuvi and Ganguly in Delhi

Pant started his IPL career with Delhi Capitals. Now in 2027 he is returning to the same team again. According to the report, Delhi Capitals has appointed Yuvraj Singh as batting coach and Sourav Ganguly as director of cricket.

In such a situation, this return will be like a new beginning for Pant. It remains to be seen whether he is able to regain his form by returning to the old franchise or not. However, according to reports, his chances of getting captaincy in Delhi are less.
