India’s Former Test Keeper KS Bharat Retires at 32, Overseas Cricket Career Awaits
Former India wicketkeeper-batter K. S. Bharat has surprised many cricket fans by announcing his retirement from Indian cricket at the age of 32. The Andhra Pradesh cricketer represented India in seven Test matches between 2023 and 2024 and was part of the squad during the 2023 World Test Championship final.
According to recent reports, Bharat has moved to Dubai and is exploring both short-term and long-term cricket opportunities outside India. His retirement from Indian cricket opens the door for participation in overseas franchise leagues and potentially other international cricket pathways in the future.
Bharat’s international career may have been brief, but he built a strong reputation in domestic cricket. He remains one of India’s most accomplished wicketkeeper-batters at the first-class level, scoring more than 5,600 runs and becoming the first wicketkeeper to score a triple century in the Ranji Trophy.
Reports suggest that financial opportunities in overseas leagues played a significant role in the decision. Several Indian cricketers who are no longer in national team plans have recently retired early to pursue careers in leagues such as the ILT20, Major League Cricket and other franchise tournaments around the world.
While there is currently no official confirmation that Bharat will represent the UAE national team, his relocation to Dubai has fueled speculation about a future cricketing role in the region. Under ICC regulations, players can potentially become eligible for another national team after meeting residency requirements and other eligibility criteria.
For now, KS Bharat’s chapter with Indian cricket has come to an end, but the experienced wicketkeeper appears ready to begin a new phase of his career on the global franchise circuit.
