Not just the photo, Trump is angry over Meloni’s statement; Expressed his frustration over not supporting Italy in the war with Iran
Desk. US President Donald Trump has made a scathing attack on Italy’s PM Georgia Meloni and indicated tension between the two leaders. Donald Trump claimed that Georgia Meloni had asked him several times to be photographed with him at the G-7 summit in France. But Trump’s real displeasure is with Meloni’s statement that he did not openly support America’s stance against Iran. According to Trump’s allegation, Italy did not support America to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Even when US aircraft needed to use Italian runways during military operations, they were denied permission, causing huge logistical challenges for the US.
Donald Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, ‘During the G-7 meeting in France, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni repeatedly requested to be photographed with me. Her popularity levels are falling in Italy, perhaps because Georgia Meloni refused to side with the US when it came to preventing Iran from acquiring or producing nuclear weapons. However, NATO also did the same.
Trump further wrote in his post, ‘Georgia Meloni did not even let us use Italy’s landing strips or runways, which caused huge logistical problems, and this happened when America spends hundreds of billions of dollars every year for the security of Italy and other so-called NATO allies. Now that America has defeated Iran militarily, Meloni wants to make friends again to increase her popularity. No thanks!’
