Georgia Meloni’s befitting reply to Donald Trump’s statement, says ‘continuous attacks are meaningless’
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again come into limelight by targeting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. 80-year-old Trump has claimed that Meloni tried to get photographed with him during the G7 meeting in France.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said Meloni repeatedly asked for a photo opportunity with him at the summit. He also said Meloni is losing support in Italy and one reason for this may be his stance on US efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Expressed displeasure over not being allowed to use the runway
Trump wrote that the reason for Meloni’s falling popularity could be his opposition to America’s steps to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear capability. He reminded that NATO also did not support Washington’s position.
Trump also questioned Italy’s decision to not allow America to use its airstrips and runways. According to him, this decision created major logistical problems in the American military operation.
Trump wrote that America spends billions of dollars every year for the security of Italy and other so-called NATO allies. He claimed that after the US defeated Iran militarily, Meloni started trying to improve relations with Washington.
Meloni’s befitting reply
Responding to Trump’s post, Meloni wrote on Instagram that President Trump’s continuous and unprovoked attacks are meaningless. He said that his popularity does not depend on his relationship with Trump.

Meloni said that her popularity depends on how well she is able to protect Italy’s national interests and that is what she has always done. He also made it clear that the rules for the use of American military bases in Italy are based on previously agreed agreements and will not be violated as long as he is Prime Minister.
Meloni advised Trump to pay attention to his popularity. He said that Italy is and will remain a sovereign nation. This rhetoric between the two leaders shows the latest sourness in their relations. Meloni, once considered one of Trump’s closest associates in Europe, is now openly responding to his statements.
