Bolivia Emergency: After nearly 50 days of anti-government protests in Bolivia, President Rodrigo Paz has imposed a state of emergency for 90 days. The country’s economy had come to a standstill for 50 days due to anti-government protests demanding his resignation. With this decision, the Army has been empowered to remove those obstructions (blockades) due to which the supply of food items and fuel has been disrupted. Paz said the blockades were no longer a social protest, but a systematic attempt to destabilize Bolivia’s democracy.

According to government figures, 365 people have been arrested so far and 37 people have been injured. Road jams and chaos led to delays in treatment, resulting in the deaths of 17 people. Workers, transport workers, teachers, rural communities and other labor organizations also took part in the protest. He says that the government has failed to handle inflation, rising cost of living and economic crisis.
