The heroine was going to be the second actress in place of Bhagyashree in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, due to this the film was lost, she herself revealed

The cult classic film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ starring Salman Khan and Bhagyashree was released in the year 1989. Director Sooraj Barjatya had directed this film and this film proved to be a huge hit. This film gave stardom to Salman Khan.

You will be surprised to know that the role of heroine in the film was not given to Bhagyashree but to actress Upasana Singh. Upasana Singh revealed in an interview why she was later rejected for this film.

Upasana Singh was selected in the audition.

Upasana Singh talked about her audition of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ in an interview with ‘Galata India’. She said, “At that time I was studying in Chandigarh and my aunty lived in Chembur. I always said that I want to become a heroine. So, whenever I came to Mumbai, I used to meet all these directors and producers.”

She further said, “So once I came to Mumbai, I met Gupta ji (who handles Sooraj Barjatya’s work). He told me that Rajshree is making a film called ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and he will introduce me to Sooraj Barjatya. I told him that I have been doing theater since childhood and I am interested in acting. Sooraj Barjatya did not take any proper audition, just asked me to speak three-four dialogues. I liked him. Came and told Gupta ji that I have been selected from his side.”

Upasana Singh was rejected

Upasana Singh told that Suraj wanted Upasana to meet his father also. After this Upasana was told that she had been selected for the film. Upasana came back to Chandigarh after the audition. Upasana said, “But I never got any call. Then the film was made. I did not watch the film for a long time because I felt bad that I was the heroine and the film was made without me. I did not tell anyone that I was selected because it made me feel very bad.”

Got rejection due to this reason

Upasana Singh told that after this she had shot the film ‘Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon’ with Barjatya. He said that during the shooting, Raj Kumar Barjatya said that initially he was to be cast in place of Bhagyashree in the film but later he was rejected. Hearing this, Upasana got angry and asked then why didn’t they cast her? On this Rajkumar told Upasana the reason for rejecting him. Rajkumar Barjatya said that she was taller than Salman Khan and that is why she was rejected.
