Toll will not be levied on ships passing through Hormuz for 60 days, Donald Trump’s big announcement

Desk: Amidst the increasing tension in the Middle East and the ongoing uncertainty regarding the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump has made a big announcement. Trump said that during the 60-day ceasefire, no toll will be imposed on ships passing through this important sea route. However, he also made it clear that if a comprehensive peace agreement is not completed then in future America may decide to impose tariffs on this route. This statement of Trump has come at a time when Iran has further increased the concerns of the global energy market by claiming to close the Strait of Hormuz.

  • Donald Trump, posting on his social media platform Truth Social, said that no charges will be levied on any ship in the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day period of the ceasefire. He said no toll would be levied even after the 60-day period ends, but if a comprehensive agreement is not reached, the US could charge tolls in exchange for playing the role of “guardian angel” for Middle Eastern countries.

Trump wrote in his post that there will be no toll in the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day ceasefire and no toll will be imposed even after 60 days, unless America itself implements it. He said that this fee can be taken for the security of the Middle East countries and to compensate for the expenses incurred in the past, present and future.

The US President did not react to reports claiming that Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz due to alleged violations of the Lebanon ceasefire agreement.
