Southeast Asia’s largest airport handles 3.6 million international passengers in May

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the largest in Southeast Asia by land area, handled 3.6 million international passengers in May, a 2% year-on-year increase driven by new flight links from China.

Airport operator Malaysia Airports said international traffic growth was boosted by the launch of Hainan Airlines’ new daily Chongqing – Kuala Lumpur service, which began on May 16, The Star newspaper reported.

The route strengthens air links between Malaysia and China, one of the country’s key tourism source markets.

As of May, Malaysia has welcomed 17.5 million foreign tourists, maintaining its position as the most visited country in Southeast Asia, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man said as reported by Malay Mail newspaper.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang spans roughly 100 square kilometers, making it Southeast Asia’s largest airport by land area and a key hub for both domestic and international air travel.
