Lucknow, 23 June. A massive fire that broke out in a commercial building in Aliganj area of Lucknow on Monday took away the happiness of many families. 28-year-old Sanyam Vij and 25-year-old Surajbhan Singh were among the more than 15 people who lost their lives in this tragic accident. After the accident, both the families are in deep shock and are getting emotional remembering their loved ones. Sanyam Vij’s maternal uncle Gaurav told the media that the family got information about the accident between 8:30 and 9 pm on Monday night. He said, “I received a call from a friend, who informed Sanyam’s mother about the incident. As soon as we got the news, we immediately left for Lucknow by car.”
Gaurav told that Sanyam had been working in the animation field for the last five years and used to come home every weekend. “He was supposed to come home yesterday because the family was mourning the death of his grandmother,” he said emotionally. Another family member raised serious questions over the security arrangements in the building. They allege that this major accident happened due to administrative negligence. “The building had neither proper stairs nor any safe way out in case of fire. The place should not have been allowed to operate in such conditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, Surajbhan Singh’s brother Sudhir said that the family is still trying to gather complete information about the accident. “We have been told that the fire broke out due to short circuit, but we do not have complete details yet,” he said. Surajbhan was also working in an animation company. According to the administration, 15 dead have been identified. The deceased include Shahjaan, Sukhmani Singh, Aditya Srivastava, Zwanil Chakraborty, Sagar Pant, Nilesh, Sanyam, Bhavishya, Jyoti, Abdul Rehman, Anamika Samant, Suraj Singh, Mohammad Ammar, Teejraj and Somalia, resident of South 24 Parganas of West Bengal. The age of most of the deceased is said to be between 20 and 24 years.
Lovepreet and Jayant injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at King George Medical University (KGMU). In this case, the police have registered an FIR against the building owners and other people in Aliganj police station. A case has been registered against six named accused under sections 105, 110, 125 and 3(5) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS). Police are investigating safety lapses and other negligence related to the fire.
